Poster for February 2026 edition of floorshow. The poster is derived from my idea of ‘instant montage’ where things are assembled and photographed, causing ideas and images to reroute and collide.

Early on Wednesday morning I set out hundreds of printed items, accumulated over the past 35 years, in the atrium at TU Dublin School of Art & Design. At the centre I arranged 5 cinema posters – big paper spaces! – and around this books, newspapers, magazines, manuscripts, LP covers, zines, artworks, editions, and pamphlets. Using the atrium as classroom for the day I gave a talk about paper space, book space, and the social spaces and communities that printed matter enables and describes. Surrounded by people this material comes to life as a social space itself.

This lettering cut in perspex was part of the lettering I rescued from a skip in front of the Screen cinema, D’Olier street, Dublin c.1998, prior to renovation. Attached with metal clips onto rails it was used to advertise the current programme during the 1990s.

This poster represents each of the books exhibited on 22 February laid-flat and to-scale.

SELECT YOUR NETWORK* is a Visual Communications 2nd year module that I run at Dublin School of Creative Arts (DIT). Students working in teams or individually are asked to consider how they receive information, how messages are constructed through journalism, books, newspapers, tv, social media, and to identify urgent issues that they wish to communicate. While the primary output of the project is digital, for the 1st edition we produced a zine to collect some of their thoughts, a page per project, with 18 projects in total. Shown here is work by: Ruifeng Wang | Yuwen Xing; Raha Jamal | Phoebe Sheridan; Nora Rabb | Shakila Sekandry; Nadia Dzagmaidze | Laura Ganter; Peter Keane | Zoe O’Byrne; Joana Ferreira | Eva Martin; Jennifer Carey | Lisa O’Brien | Saoirse Ryan; Sarah Sullivan | Jake Skelly; Hannah Monaghan | Amy Tyrell; Cliona Bray | Princess O’Connor.

* The title is borrowed from and tribute to SELECT YOUR NETWORK, a self-published poster by P. Scott Makela made while studying at Cranbrook Academy of Art, 1990
